Welcome! This is a website that everyone can build together. It's easy!

A people's history - from 1850 to the presentThis is a featured page

"On 22 June 1948, the British troopship ss Empire Windrush discharged its passengers at Tilbury Docks in Kent. Among those on board were 492 Jamaican civilians who had joined the ship at Kingston. They were leaving behind an island devastated by a recent hurricane, where there were few jobs and which was suffering from a long-term agricultural depression. Their arrival marked the beginning of a major period of black immigration to Britain, which ended in 1962 with the passing of the Commonwealth Immigrants Act." (more about the Windrush generation here )

Steps

This is the story that Dudley people continue here, those African-Caribbeans who came to settle in the West Midlands - their children and grandchildren.

Launched for Black History Month in 2007, Black Pearls is about the wisdom and experience of each of these generations, collected and edited as part of a personal and community development programme, organised by Dudley Council's Adult and Community Learning Team.

Anyone interested in writing some kind of follow up from the "Indefinite Leave to Remain" section?
There's a blank slot to be filled... "The DJ Scene" looking at the discos held at Dudley College, Blues parties at Eve hill Community Centre...
